The Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) has been dutifully and reliably providing retirement services to city employees since 1947. They serve over 940 cities and manage over $47 billion in assets. TMRS hired BHW to reimagine and modernize their most critical internal-use and customer-facing applications.
Through this engagement, BHW designed, developed, deployed, and continues to maintain an entirely revitalized membership portal called MyTMRS. Within this responsive web application, TMRS members can run retirement estimates, manage their beneficiaries, review their payment history, access tax documents, and so much more.
One of the most exciting features included in the updated MyTMRS is a complete online retirement process. This new system replaced a much slower and error-prone paper process. For the first time, members are now able to make their retirement elections, configure their retirement beneficiaries, and configure their pension payments within an elegant and intuitive online process. This feature has had a profound impact on TMRS, as the vast majority of retirement applications are now completed online. This has reduced mistakes, increased member satisfaction, and replaced a tedious and time consuming manual process.
In addition to creating this beautiful member portal, BHW is incrementally replacing aging, mission-critical applications used by staff. These applications are used to manage membership details, process payments, review account histories, manage city profiles, and execute countless other critical functions. BHW has worked closely with stakeholders to gradually replace this existing platform in a manner that provides immediate value to the business, while always considering longer-term goals and timelines.
